Review: You Can’t Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have To Explain by Phoebe Robinson
This book was a disappointment and a miss for me. After about the first 30% of the book, it became very cliché for me with lots of rambling about nothing in between. I so wanted to love this book and walk away feeling empowered like I did with Brittney Cooper’s Eloquent Rage but sadly I was not.
In all honesty, the book left me confused most of the time. From Letters to the Future President to mentions of the NFL to letters to her niece, I couldn’t understand what Phoebe wanted readers to take away from reading her book. There were a few funny parts and I have to say that had I not listened to the audio version, I would have DNF’d the book a long time ago. I mean it was excruciating to get through and the only reason I finished is because as the host of the book club discussions, you kind of have to know what’s going on. I hate to be hard on books but this one just did not warm my insides and leave me wanting more.
Overall I rated this a generous ⭐⭐⭐. Much like “I’m Judging You” by Luvvie Ajayi, this book’s just not for the intended audience. And honestly, I’m not even really sure who it’s intended for. That’s just how all over the place this was for me.

I agree with you this book was just…not what I was expecting at all. Major fail for me.
