Review: The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Happy Saturday!! Glad I bumped this one up on the list when I saw that Oprah had made it her current selection for Oprah’s Book Club. I am a huge fan of historical fiction (especially on the subject of slavery) so this novel was right up my alley. This was my second Ta-Nehisi Coates read (having read Between the World and Me first) and I really appreciate when authors are diverse in their writing, being able to tackle both fiction and nonfiction.

So much unfolded in this book and I loved every second of it. Such a unique twist on slavery. We got to see snippets of Hiram and conduction in the beginning of the novel but really didn’t have a full understanding of it until the story’s conclusion. Just how powerful his memories were and why they were kept from him. Hirams father (who also happens to be his master), knew the powers that Hiram contained but wanted for them to remain a mystery. Much like Corrine and others of the Underground along his path. I rated this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫!

How many of you have been reading along with Oprah’s Book Club? What were/are your thoughts?
