Review: The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

Wow. Just Wow. This books was absolute perfection and really spoke to the hopeless romantic in me. It was a perfectly written love story, where the princess wins her prince.

I think one of the major factors in me loving this book is the fact that the main character Alexa is a black woman. As a divorcee now living the single life, it’s not too often that you get to see fellow black women live out a fairytale and actually win in the end. Dating is simply just a different beast in this day and age.

The book kept me on my toes from beginning to end. Alexa and Drew were both extremely stubborn and mysterious. Knowing that they couldn’t live without one another but two darn stubborn to admit it to themselves. Alexa harbored a lot of insecurities throughout the book and I could have done without them but Drew seemed to reassure her time and time again.

I will admit that I struggled with Drew being a white guy at first, but I too began to fall in love with him. He’s perfection. His looks, career, charisma, his romanticism….you name it, he possessed it. He tried hard to cut ties and let her go again and again, but the heart simply wants what it wants.

I also want to add that there is a TON of eating throughout this book. This was so hard for me to read at times being that I’m currently dieting and making major lifestyle changes. Donuts are my kryptonite as well as tacos and margaritas. 😭😭😭

The ending had me tearing up a few times. Alexa was a victory for so many of us in ways I can’t even describe. This is a great light and fun read and one that everyone should add to their summer reading list. I gave this novel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and will definitely be reading it again! Highly recommended if you’re a hopeless romantic like myself!

Omg, I loved your review of this. You definitely make want to read this, I think that I might struggle a bit too with her being with a white man. In real life I wouldn’t mind, but in books something about just blows me off. It seems like a little bit of comedy might be entwined in it (judging by the name of this book). Thank you for this review. Also, I’m new, I found your insta a long time ago, but I never knew you had a blog until your post about this book said ” check out my blog”. So I did and I am hoping that you will accept me into this community. P.S. I’m also a black girl.
