Review: The Blood of Emmett Till by Timothy B. Tyson

Whew. This book was A LOT to take in but it was a story that has intrigued me for many years and I’m glad I finally read it. When I look at what happens to Emmett and the world we live in today, sadly….not much has changed. We still live in a word where white supremacy exists and some white people feel they’re superior to everyone else and can ultimately treat people of color any which way they please. I was blind but over the years, I now finally see. I see how people of color experience oppression on a daily basis. Its troubling to me that one can murder someone in cold blood, admit it and still get off scott free because of the color of their skin. Sadly, we as people of color are oppressed simply because of the greatness we possess.

While heartbreaking to read, this is definitely a story everyone should indulge in. Emmett and his story is one that made history and is one of the most notable lynchings of its time. This book was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me! This book has given my a lot to digest. Not only do I fear for the lives of people of color, but it also places fear in my heart for my loved ones. It’s very apparent that not much has changed since the murder of Emmett Till.
