Review: Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah

Man. This book was OFF THE CHAIN. It’s taken me 34 years to get to this book and I’m not even sure how so many people read this in middle school. I wasn’t ready. lol

I felt like Winter Santiaga was an entitled spoiled brat. Her mentally had me in awe most times but I supposes that’s because she grew up in the hood. Each decision she made seemed to spiral downward and eventually backfire on her. From lavish lifestyles to stabbing her friends in the back, nothing was out of the question for Winter. I hated that all she has found for herself was her looks and spreading her legs to get what she wanted. You can’t help but blame her parents for raising her this way and the drug dealer lifestyle ended up being the demise of them as individuals and as a family. They just seemed to be unable to pick themselves back up.

I also didn’t like the fact that her sisters were never really a thought of hers after they got taken into foster care. That to me showed extreme selfishness on Winters part. She’d rather be buried in fashionable clothes and money than be concerned with her sisters whereabouts. It was a sad situation in the end and although I’m a little concerned for Porsche, I was happy to see the twins in good hands with Midnight.

Speaking of Midnight, I was happy to see him escape the street life and do something with himself. He proved himself to be a strong man when he resisted temptation on a number of occasions with Winter and in other situations. Not only was he strong, but he was extremely loyal. I look forward to reading his sequels soon.

Overall I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I think is was entertaining, suspenseful and a book that everyone African American should add to their list of must reads.
