Review: The Autobiography of Malcolm X
After what seemed like FOREVER….I finally finished!! 😩😩😩😩😩😩
Took a while for me to get into…but once it picked up…there was no looking back. The 466 pages of tiny font were super depressing and intimidating. Buying the ebook version on sale for $1.99 last week was a life saver!
This year has been a year I decided that digging deeper into my culture is a MUST! I want to embrace books by past historical figures and learning some of the raw truths of my people and the way we were treated from the beginning. I feel like growing up in the suburbs, not having been elaborately taught these things in grade school and attending a mostly white college, Ive not had much cultural influence growing up. Now more than ever, I’m craving it and craving to learn more about it. Malcom X for me was the place to start.
His story started off slow for me, but after about 150 pages or so (as a fellow bookstgrammer had advised), it began to pick up for me. His childhood was interesting but almost too in depth for me and took 150 pages for him to reach 17 where life began to get exciting. I had no idea that Malcolm X lived the type of life he did, included being incarcerated for 7 or so years.
Definitely a book I’d recommend that all black people read. I love and appreciate that he was able to tell his truth before being assassinated. Definitely a must read though. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
